Documentation and acquisition of Romansh Tuatschin

Project overview

The project "The morphosyntax of agreement in Tuatschin: acquisition and contact" (or short "Project Tuatschin") investigated the morphosyntax and the acquisition of agreement by children in an endangered variety of Romansh, Tuatschin, from the perspective of language contact. Romansh varieties represent a paramount case of prolonged language contact in the Alps, having been in contact with (Swiss) German varieties for centuries. In order to reach a principled and exhaustive analysis of the phenomena to be investigated, and to answer linked research questions, two large corpora of naturally-occurring speech both for adults and children were collected, transcribed, and annotated.

Funding

The project Tuatschin was funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
